LeRoy Brown

For all of you Reef junkies you know that a brown, much less a big brown, can be a fairly hard thing to come by on Grey Reef. This becomes even more evident during the spring when feisty rainbows steal the show. Now, I really and truly appreciate the acrobatics of old Mr./Mrs. rainbow but there is something to be said for the elusive and witty bad ass brown trout. So above you will see to very nice specimens and two very happy clients...CONGRATS Tim Welch and Pete Huffman...and guides Ryan Hemkens and Seth Kapust.

That hurt and I apologize. We will be hosting the annual "Party Like its 1999" party on May 16th as suggested by the Reefers who voted. This party will only be canceled in the event that there is lousy weather. We will raffle a rod and prizes will be given for the best costumes...err...the fisher with the most streamers in his/her hat. The venue is The Reef Fly Shop.

Monster Trout!

The last few days have been pretty rough...cold, wind, and pretty much every form of precipitation imaginable. Despite these less than perfect conditions our guides/clients that stuck it out enjoyed a very quite river and some fantastic fishing! Good numbers of Grey Reef sized trout and even one monster caught by Richard De Petris of Rockwall, TX.

It's about time!

After weeks of winter weather and a late start to the 09' season, The Reef Fly Shop and North Platte Lodge are rollin'. Despite the runoff the boys are reporting successful days and happy clients. The water temperature is gradually starting climb into the mid 40s and baetis are becoming a common theme. With our increased snowpack, late April and on should be nothing short of spectacular!

PARTY LIKE ITS 1999

Our latest poll asked "Will the state of the economy keep you from fishing Grey Reef in 2009?". The results are in and I'm not surprised at the outcome.

34% of Grey Reefers said they are coming, but they're going to do it on a dirtbag budget. We know some of that 34% has the cash to come and live large you are just...well...dirtbags. And we respect that.

48% of the Reefers are coming to party like it is 1999. Couple Benjis will buy enough booze and bugs to keep your stoke for several days. Alcova is a great place for those with means to blend in...hide out and enjoy ambiguity. It is also a great place for the blue collar Reefers to stand out and be a huh...huh...huh..high roller.

11% of you are coming to lose your Grey Reef virginity. We hope its a memory that will last a lifetime!

4% are staying home to lick your wounds. We are sincerely sorry for you. Nothing like a quick trip to Grey Reef to ease your pain. See you soon!

The results are perfect. The Grey Reefers have spoken. Question is WHEN are we going to party like its 1999? The Reef Fly Shop enjoys inviting all the fishers and guides to a gathering on a Saturday in the spring. We provide adult beverages and processed meats on the grill. Go to the new poll and vote for a day to party.

Disclaimer: by voting you are RSVPing, now you have practically become family and will be expected to do the dishes
